New Delhi : The Indian Masters Weightlifting Federation headed by its General Secretary Uday Shetty has brought pride to the nation with an impressive performance at the Germany Open World Championship, where the Indian contingent secured a total of eight medals, showcasing exceptional talent and determination on the international stage.
In recognition of this remarkable achievement, the athletes were felicitated by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, at a special ceremony. The event was attended by Uday Shetty, Secretary General of the Indian Masters Weightlifting Federation, along with members of the medal-winning Indian team.
Congratulating the athletes on their success, Dr. Mandaviya commended their dedication and perseverance in representing India with distinction. During the interaction, he extended his best wishes for their future competitions and reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to supporting the growth and promotion of Masters Weightlifting across the country.
The Indian Masters Weightlifting team is now preparing for its next major challenge—the World Masters Weightlifting Championship, scheduled to be held in Greece from 17 to 26 September 2026. The athletes are training rigorously with the aim of building on their recent success and bringing further glory to the nation.
In another significant development for the sport, India has been awarded the hosting rights for the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship 2027. Expressing his happiness over this achievement, Dr. Mandaviya assured full support for the successful organization of the prestigious continental event and expressed confidence in India’s ability to deliver a world-class championship.
The Indian Masters Weightlifting Federation remains steadfast in its mission to elevate the sport, nurture veteran athletes and strengthen India’s presence in international Masters Weightlifting competitions.
