Kadaba : The Barke Police in Mangaluru City have arrested a 22-year-old youth from Kadaba for allegedly using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to generate a fake admit card in an attempt to cheat his way into a police physical examination. The arrested accused has been identified as Yajesh B.J. Rai, a resident of Bedraje in Kodimbala village of Kadaba taluk.
The fraud unfolded on September 28 at Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru, where the Endurance Test and Physical Standard Test (ET & PST) for Civil Police Constable (CPC) Recruitment-2026 was underway for Dakshina Kannada district. During verification at the registration desk, Yajesh produced a hall ticket bearing registration number CPC5225446. However, when police personnel cross-checked the details on the software provided by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), neither his name nor application number appeared in the 1:5 eligibility shortlist, raising strong suspicion among officers.
Sustained interrogation revealed that Yajesh had actually failed the written examination. Driven by a fraudulent intent to appear for the physical test, he procured a valid hall ticket from a qualified candidate and edited his name and personal details onto it using AI tools. Upon inspecting his mobile phone, police discovered direct digital evidence confirming the creation and editing of the fraudulent admit card.
Based on a complaint lodged by Prakash Rudrappa Hoovina, Assistant Administrative Officer at the District Police Chief’s Office in Dakshina Kannada, a case was registered at the Barke Police Station under Sections 336(1), 336(3) (forgery and fake document creation), and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The accused has been produced before the court, and an investigative team from Barke Police visited Kadaba to conduct a scene inquiry at a local cyber café/xerox shop where the fake hall ticket was printed.
