The couple, who tied the knot three years ago, submitted their divorce petition by mutual consent at the Puttur Family Court on June 12.
Akhila, who gained fame as the first runner-up in Kannada Kogile Seasons 1 and 2, announced her engagement to Dhananjay Sharma, a US-based software engineer, in February 2021. The couple later married in 2022, sharing their joyous moments on Instagram. However, recent reports confirm that they have now decided to part ways.
Her divorce news has come as a shock to fans who are wondering the reason that led to their separation. While the exact reason for the separation remains undisclosed, some reports claim that they are parting ways due to irreconcilable differences.
Akhila has deleted all pictures and videos of her husband from her social media accounts. Official court documents confirm the divorce filing, though neither party has publicly commented on the matter.
Hailing from Puttur, Akhila first captured hearts as a contestant on Sare Gamapa Little Lil Champs (2011). Her breakthrough came with Kannada Kogile, where her melodious voice made her a household name in Karnataka.
After a brief hiatus post-marriage, she returned to television as a host for a devotional show, exploring lesser-known temples across Karnataka.
Originally from Mysuru, Dhananjay works as a firmware engineer in the US. The couple had previously shared glimpses of their life together, including trips in their Tesla car. However, recent developments mark the end of their marital journey.
Meanwhile, the singer has removed all the pictures related to her marriage from her social media profiles.
