Mangaluru : The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has lauded recent efforts resulting in a major relief for the people of Dakshina Kannada: the Surathkal – Nanthoor – B.C. Road highway stretch is set for critical maintenance and upgrades.
Key Project Transfer and Approval
The Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways has officially approved the transfer of the Surathkal – Nanthoor – B.C. Road Port Connectivity Project (NH 66 & NH 75). This vital corridor will now be managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), moving from its previous custodians, NMPRCL. KCCI expressed deep appreciation for the consistent follow-up with the Central Government that secured this move.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Safety
The transfer to NHAI is anticipated to ensure more reliable upkeep, enhanced safety measures, and long-term capacity improvements for this crucial trade route. The KCCI notes that this development is a major positive step for regional commerce and the general public.
Immediate Action and Sanctioned Funds
NHAI is set to commence immediate strengthening works on the corridor. Furthermore, they will prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) specifically to tackle long-standing issues such as congestion, black spots, drainage problems, and service-road requirements. This commitment is underscored by the ₹28.58 crore sanctioned for the upgrade of this vital corridor.
Looking Ahead
KCCI thanked the proactive leadership involved and expressed hope that these efforts will bring similar priority and attention to other key roads and pending road projects across the region. The Chamber is now eagerly anticipating the earliest commencement of these works by NHAI.
