Belthangady : A horrific workplace accident claimed the life of a construction laborer on Saturday evening near the Hosamane Doddamma Temple in Shivamogga city. The tragic incident unfolded when the worker became fatally trapped in a heavy-duty crane operating at the site, leading to shock and anxiety among the locals gathered in the area.
The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Nagesh, a resident of Piligoodu in the Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. He is survived by his wife and two children. Nagesh had arrived in Shivamogga just a day prior, on Friday, specifically to secure employment and assist in the ongoing renovation and construction work of the temple.
According to reports from the site, Nagesh was actively engaged in his duties when he was suddenly caught in the machinery of the crane. He sustained catastrophic injuries from the impact and passed away on the spot before any medical help could be administered.
Preliminary findings suggest that the disaster was triggered by the sheer carelessness and reckless operation of the vehicle by the crane driver. Following the incident, the local police rushed to the spot, registered an official case against the operator, and have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the safety lapses at the construction site.
