Mangaluru Court Sentences Man to 10 Years Rigorous Imprisonment in 2020 Acid Attack Case

Mangaluru : The 5th Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru has sentenced an accused to rigorous imprisonment in connection with an acid attack case registered six years ago under the Kadaba Police Station limits.

The incident pertains to a case filed in 2020 against Jayananda K. (60), a resident of Kodimbala in Kadaba taluk, for launching an acid attack. Kusumadhara, the then Police Inspector of Puttur Women’s Police Station and investigating officer, had submitted the charge sheet to the court.

After hearing the arguments, Judge Sadananda Nagappa Naik of the 5th Additional District and Sessions Court found the accused guilty and sentenced him under IPC Section 326A to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 3,00,000. In case of default in paying the fine, the accused will have to undergo an additional 2 years of simple imprisonment.

Furthermore, under IPC Section 504, the court imposed a 1-year imprisonment term and a fine of Rs 5,000, with a default sentence of an additional 3 months of simple imprisonment. Public Prosecutors Krishnaveni, Harishchandra Udyavara, Prakashchandra Shetty, and Jayanthi K. represented the prosecution during the trial.
