Mangaluru : The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated with great reverence by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration and District Panchayat at Rajaji Park in Mangaluru on Friday. Dignitaries present on the occasion offered floral tributes and placed khadi garlands on the statue of the Father of the Nation to pay their respects.
Addressing the gathering, Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Manjunath Bhandary remarked that Mahatma Gandhi’s life serves as an inspiration to all. He emphasized that Gandhiji’s willingness to listen respectfully to others rather than just speak built trust and elevated him as a national leader during the freedom movement. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Karnataka Minimum Wages Advisory Board T. M. Shahid, Chairperson of the Eco-Tourism Development Board Shallet Pinto, and Chairman of the Ganiga Development Corporation Vishwas Kumar Das also spoke during the event.
The celebration featured an all-faith prayer session alongside soulful renditions of Gandhiji’s favorite devotional songs, “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” and “Vaishnav Jan To.” On this occasion, special publications brought out by the Department of Information and Public Relations were released. Prizes and certificates were also distributed to the winners of the district-level Bapu Essay Competition held across high school, pre-university, and undergraduate/postgraduate categories.
The program was attended by Deputy Commissioner Darshan H. V., Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Police Arun K., Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi Arya, City Corporation Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey, DCP Sam Varghese, DDPI Shashidhar, Bharat Seva Dal leaders Basheer Baikampady and T. K. Sudhir, along with various department officials, students, and members of the public. District Information Officer Khader Shah welcomed the gathering, and Saiduddin hosted the event.
