Brahmavar: A significant security lapse was uncovered in Hanehalli village near Hiriyadka after local police detained a group of foreign nationals living illegally at a private resort. The group, consisting of six adults and three minors, was discovered residing and working at the ‘Kuradi Sankamma Thayi Resort’ without any valid travel documents or legal authorization.
The Hospital Visit That Exposed the Racket The illegal stay came to light when a pregnant woman from the group visited the government hospital in Barkur seeking medical attention. During the mandatory admission process, hospital staff noticed that she lacked any form of identity proof or visa documentation. Suspecting foul play, the hospital management immediately alerted the Brahmavar police, triggering a swift investigation.
Lack of Documentation and National Security Concerns Upon raiding the resort, police identified the individuals as Reepak Damayi, Sunita Damayi, Urmila, Kailash Damayi, Kapil Damayi, and Sunita Damayi. Under interrogation, none of the individuals could produce passports, birth certificates, or residency permits. Furthermore, they failed to provide clear information regarding their country of origin, raising serious concerns about illegal infiltration across the border. Reports indicate that the resort is owned by Prithviraj Shetty Billadi, the President of the BJP Yuva Morcha.
Strict Warnings for Hospitality Owners In response to the incident, Udupi District Superintendent of Police, Hariram Shankar, issued a stern directive to all hotel and resort owners. He emphasized that it is a legal mandate to collect ‘C-Forms’ from foreign guests and report their stay to the District Police Office. “Sheltering undocumented individuals is a direct threat to internal security,” the SP stated, warning that resort owners and managers who facilitate such illegal stays will face rigorous legal action.
A formal case has been registered at the Brahmavar Police Station, and specialized teams are now investigating the route used by these individuals to enter the country.
