Kundapura: The Kundapura police have successfully arrested a man in connection with a theft at a local jewelry store, where he had posed as a customer to steal a gold chain. The accused has been identified as 42-year-old Ramesh, a resident of Badaga in Kajekar village, Bantwal taluk. On the evening of January 27, the suspect visited SPG Gold and Diamonds near Shastri Circle in Kundapura. Under the pretext of buying jewelry, he distracted the staff and managed to flee with a gold chain weighing approximately 9 grams, valued at ₹1,25,000.
Following the registration of the case, a dedicated police team launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the accused. During the operation, the authorities recovered the stolen gold chain along with ₹33,000 in cash that was in his possession. The accused was subsequently produced before the court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Kundapura DYSP H.D. Kulkarni and led by Kundapura Police Circle Inspector Jayaram D. Gowda. The team included Sub-Inspectors Nanjanayaka N. and Pushpa, along with personnel Santhosh, Mahabala Shettigar, Prince, Ghanashyam, Santhosh Devadiga, Gautham, Lohith, and Chandrashetty.
