Mangaluru : Mandd Sobhann, a premier organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Konkani language and culture, has announced its ambitious plan to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers. Addressing a press conference, Mandd Sobhann President Louis J. Pinto detailed that the historic 12-day, 12-hour, and 12-minute non-stop musical event will take place at the Town Hall in Mangaluru from November 3 to November 15, 2026. The marathon aims to elevate Konkani music to a global stage while fostering linguistic and cultural unity among the Konkani-speaking populace worldwide.
The grand event will feature over 6,789 singers divided into nearly 300 groups, rendering more than 4,500 unique Konkani songs without repetition. Participants from across India as well as international Konkani communities from Australia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait will take part in this monumental effort. Recognizing Konkani’s inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, this initiative strives to showcase the vast diversity, rich legacy, and intergenerational traditions of Konkani music while ensuring its vibrant heritage is passed down to future generations.
Beyond achieving a world record, the marathon serves as a powerful platform for religious harmony, social inclusiveness, and cultural solidarity. People belonging to Hindu, Christian, and Muslim faiths, alongside diverse dialectical communities such as Goud Saraswat Brahmins (GSB), Rajapur Saraswat Brahmins (RSB), Kudal Deshasta, Syrian Orthodox Christians, Kharvis, Kudmis, Siddis, Nawayat Muslims, and Daldi Muslims, will stand together on a single stage. This collective representation highlights how music and a shared mother tongue can transcend religious and cultural barriers to build lasting brotherhood and unity.
An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records is expected to be present on-site to inspect, guide, and verify the performance according to official guidelines. Key organizers, including Roy Castelino (Chairman, Finance Committee, F.W.K.M.M.C.), Joel Pereira (Chief Music Director, F.W.K.M.M.C.), Joachim Stany Alvares (Coordinator, Mandd Sobhann), and Ronald Crasta (Secretary, Mandd Sobhann), were present at the press conference as Mandd Sobhann extended an open invitation to music lovers, cultural organizations, and the general public to witness this historic celebration of Konkani heritage.
