Mangaluru: KCCI submits memorandum to DK Shivakumar highlighting critical district issues

Mangaluru : The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mangaluru, has submitted a comprehensive memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, outlining several critical issues affecting industrial growth, infrastructure, and commercial development in Dakshina Kannada district. Signed by KCCI President P. B. Ahmed Mudassar, the letter urges immediate state government intervention to resolve long-pending bottlenecks and accelerate economic development in the coastal region.

Among the key demands, KCCI highlighted the delayed acquisition of 1,050 acres of land in Balkunje, intended for promoting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The trade body warned that prolonged delays are jeopardizing local economic growth and risk driving potential industries to other districts or states. To further support local MSMEs, KCCI urged the government to repossess 400 acres of unutilized JESCO land and 50 acres of KISCO land, which have remained idle for over three decades, and reallocate them exclusively for MSME operations.

The memorandum also focused heavily on infrastructure upgrades in the Baikampady Industrial Area. While welcoming KIADB’s proposed ₹50 crore water treatment plant, KCCI emphasized that its effectiveness depends on prioritizing a proper underground drainage system. Additionally, the trade body demanded underground power cabling to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and requested urgent repairs of unmotorable industrial roads, including the key ODC road, to ensure smooth logistics.

KCCI also advocated for establishing an Integrated Multi-Modal Logistics Park and a dedicated International Exhibition Centre in Mangaluru. Capitalizing on the city’s strategic location, port connectivity, and international airport, the proposed logistics park would feature mechanized warehousing, cold storage, and MRO facilities. Furthermore, the requested Mangaluru International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) aims to position the city as a major hub for trade fairs, business expos, and international investments.
