Mangaluru : In a major drive against drug trafficking, the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate scientifically and eco-friendly incinerated seized contraband worth approximately ₹82 crore at the Kolnadu Industrial Area in Mulki on Wednesday. Following court authorization, the disposal was carried out under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee, involving narcotics confiscated across 59 NDPS cases registered in 16 police stations. The destroyed items included 450 kg of ganja along with 43.26 kg of MDMA and other synthetic drugs, featuring a massive seizure of 37 kg MDMA valued at ₹75 crore from a single 2024 Mangaluru East station case. Among other major destructions were 4 kg MDMA worth ₹4.47 crore from Mulki station, 106 kg ganja worth ₹20 lakh from Konaje, and 111 kg ganja worth ₹36 lakh from Moodbidri station.
Underscoring their intensified crackdown, the city police revealed that 87 NDPS cases have been registered so far in 2026, leading to the arrest of 157 drug peddlers. Police operations during this current year have yielded seizures worth ₹8.18 crore, comprising 148.61 kg of ganja, 7.16 kg of MDMA, and 1.7 kg of hydro weed ganja. Additionally, enforcement against drug consumption has resulted in 356 cases being filed against 463 individuals.
The City Police Commissioner appealed to the public to proactively share any information regarding drug trade or consumption. Citizens can report illicit drug activities directly via the designated QR codes provided by the department or by contacting the emergency control room numbers at 112 or 9480802321.
