Mangaluru : As part of the grand Karavali Utsava festivities, the 9th ONGC–MRPL International Kite Festival is set to take place on January 17th and 18th, 2026. This year, the festival moves to a scenic new venue, the Blue Bay Beach at Tannirbavi, Mangaluru. Organized by ‘Team Mangalore,’ a dedicated group of kite enthusiasts, the event aims to celebrate and showcase the vibrant cultural heritage of the Dakshina Kannada district.
The curtain-raiser for this spectacular event was high-profile, conducted by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shri D. K. Shivakumar on January 10th. The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Tourism Minister Shri H.K. Patil, Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri U.T. Khader, Health Minister Shri Dinesh Gundu Rao, and Udupi District In-charge Minister Smt. Laxmi Hebbalkar. Administrative and political leaders, including Deputy Commissioner Shri Darshan H.V., MLA Shri Gurme Suresh Shetty, and MLC Shri Ivan Dsouza, were also in attendance to support the initiative.
The festival is expected to be a major attraction, featuring a large contingent of 60 kite flyers arriving from across India and various foreign countries. Attendees can look forward to a spectacular display of tradition and creativity in the skies. The event promises to foster international camaraderie while remaining deeply rooted in the unique spirit of Tulunadu, making it a landmark highlight of the coastal tourism calendar.
