Mangaluru : Addressing a press conference at a private hotel in Mangaluru on Saturday night, MESCOM Chairman Harish Kumar announced that out of the 430 vacant powerman positions notified by the electricity supply company, 395 candidates have been successfully recruited and issued appointment letters. He further highlighted that recruitment drives will continue to fill the remaining 165 vacant powerman posts across the division. Clarifying the regional distribution of the newly appointed workforce, he noted that only five recruits belong to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, while approximately 50 candidates hail from the broader districts falling under MESCOM’s operational jurisdiction.
To ensure occupational safety across the four districts under MESCOM, the chairman stated that 705 Non-Contact Voltage Detectors (NCVD) have been distributed to powermen to prevent workplace accidents. He added that MESCOM is steadily progressing toward profitability, successfully reducing power transmission leakage from 12% to 8%. However, he revealed that local administrative bodies, including Gram Panchayats, Town Panchayats, and Municipalities, currently owe MESCOM ₹305 crore in pending dues related to street lighting and public water supply schemes.
