Mangaluru : To mark World Organ Donation Day, the Youth Red Cross Units of Milagres College and Mangaluru University joined hands with Jeevasarthakathe and the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), Karnataka, to organize an insightful awareness and pledge registration drive at the college auditorium. The initiative aimed to educate students on the critical importance of organ donation and address widespread societal myths surrounding the cause. During the event, 22 enthusiastic students actively stepped forward to pledge their organs.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Jyothi K. Ulepadi, District Health Education Officer, emphasized the necessity of clearing societal misconceptions and encouraging voluntary pledges among the youth. Delivering the keynote address on the theme “Organ Donation – A Gift of Life,” SOTTO Grief Counsellor-cum-Transplant Coordinator Shilpa T. U. detailed the formal registration procedures and highlighted how a single pledge can grant a fresh lease on life to individuals in critical need. Presiding over the session, College Principal Rev. Dr. Alwin Serrao urged the student community to act as ambassadors and spread this vital message deeper into society.
The event witnessed active participation from students across various institutions, with key dignitaries including YRC District Nodal Officer Dr. Gayathri N. and IQAC Co-Coordinator Chethana in attendance. YRC Secretary Sinchana delivered the welcome address, while YRC Programme Officer Sushmitha Shaila Moras presented the vote of thanks, and student Princel successfully compered the proceedings.
