Ujire : A comprehensive cleanliness drive titled “Swachh Netravathi” was successfully carried out at the sacred Netravathi river bathing ghat on Thursday. Organized under the aegis of the Dharmasthala Grama Panchayat, the environmental initiative aimed to rejuvenate the riverbanks and eliminate waste accumulation. The campaign witnessed an overwhelming response as several prominent socio-civic organizations and local volunteer groups joined forces to restore the ecological sanctity of the river area.
The mega cleanliness movement drew active participation from diverse community groups, including the Rotary Club and Lions Club of Belthangady, Sanjeevini Women’s Federation, and Kanyakumari Girls’ Association. Additionally, trained volunteers from the Shaurya Disaster Management Team, along with members of various local bodies, dedicated their time to manually clearing plastic waste and litter from the riverbed, showcasing a remarkable spirit of community service.
The campaign was officially set in motion by A.V. Shetty, the private secretary to Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, who unveiled a specially designed “Cleanliness Awareness Signboard” at the location to encourage pilgrims to maintain hygiene. Earlier, Dharmasthala Grama Panchayat Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) Gayatri warmly welcomed the gathering of volunteers and dignitaries, while Panchayat Secretary Pramila concluded the event by expressing gratitude to all the participants for their invaluable contribution to the green initiative.
