Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta, while addressing a press conference at the district BJP office, expressed high expectations that the State Cabinet meeting scheduled for September 18 in Mangaluru will address critical pending demands of the coastal belt. To foster better coordination between state initiatives and central projects, Chowta urged the government to include regional MPs as permanent invitees or members on the Karnataka State Maritime Board and the Special Coastal Tourism Development Authority. He emphasized that this representation is essential for boosting maritime infrastructure, port development, the coastal economy, and local tourism. He also highlighted the proposal to rename Dakshina Kannada district as ‘Mangaluru District,’ recalling that a resolution in this regard was previously passed in the Disha meeting and submitted to the state government for approval.
Focusing on vital connectivity and regional infrastructure, the MP urged the state government to work closely with the Railway Ministry to clear local bottlenecks, speed up the track doubling along the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route, and expedite the year-round upgrading of Shiradi Ghat. Welcoming the decision to integrate the Mangaluru rail network into the Mysuru division, Chowta also pressed the state to proactively engage with the Centre regarding the long-pending merger of the Konkan Railway with Indian Railways. Additionally, he called upon the Cabinet to grant official language status to Tulu in Karnataka, while urging immediate policy action regarding the Kasturirangan report and the clear demarcation of forest and revenue land boundaries. Senior BJP leaders including District President Satish Kumpala, Premananda Shetty, Rajgopal Rai, and others were present during the briefing.
