Thokkottu : In a swift morning operation on Thursday, National Highways Authority officials demolished and evicted a decade-old roadside fish market operating at Kallapu near Ullal. The action was taken to facilitate the ongoing construction of the highway service road. Armed with JCB earthmovers, the highway contract work team arrived at Kallapu early in the morning to execute the clearance drive.
The unexpected eviction triggered strong resentment and anger among local fish vendors who had been earning their livelihood at the location for nearly ten years. Protesting the sudden action, vendors expressed deep anguish over the loss of their business spot and demanded appropriate alternative arrangements to continue their trade.
