Surathkal : The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, organized a five‑day workshop on “Emerging Directions in Graph Theory and Graph Neural Networks” from 18 to 22 May 2026 at NITK Surathkal. The workshop was funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India.
The inaugural function was held on 18 May 2026. Prof. Pratima Panigrahi, Professor, Department of Mathematics, IIT Kharagpur, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Prof. Udaya Bhat, Dean (Research & Innovation), NITK Surathkal, presided over the function.
The workshop aimed to provide participants with an understanding of both the mathematical foundations and practical applications of graph theory and Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). These concepts have gained increasing importance in diverse domains such as social networks, biological systems, recommendation systems, transportation networks, and scientific computing. The programme was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical graph concepts and modern computational techniques, bringing together participants from mathematics, computer science, data science, and allied disciplines.
A total of 52 participants from various institutions, including faculty members and research scholars, attended the workshop.
The sessions comprised expert lectures, hands‑on training, and interactive discussions, offering exposure to emerging research trends and applications in graph‑based learning methods. Distinguished speakers from reputed academic institutions and industry contributed to the programme, including representatives from IIT Kharagpur, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, NIT Calicut, IIT Palakkad, IIT Delhi, Delhi Technological University, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
