Udupi : Following complaints regarding the artificial ripening of bananas using hazardous substances, food safety and health department officials conducted joint raids on three to four banana storage centers at Alevoor in Udupi. Led by Kundapura Assistant Commissioner Rashmi, the joint team thoroughly inspected the premises and uncovered the use of harmful chemical agents utilized to accelerate the ripening process and artificially enhance the fruit’s color.
During the operation, officials seized the chemical agents alongside several vehicles allegedly involved in carrying out this illegal operation. Formal cases have been registered against the responsible parties for violating food safety norms, while authorities confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against anyone compromising public health. Further details regarding the exact quantity of the confiscated chemicals and equipment are awaited as the investigation continues.
