Udupi : The Udupi City Police have registered a case against more than ten individuals following a complaint lodged by Dileep Kumar of Perdoor, who alleged that the accused abetted the suicide of his brother Pradeep at the Ajjarkad District Hospital.
The case has been booked against Shravya Shetty, Prasanna Shetty, Sudheer, Shailesh, Shashank, Krishna, Sujay, Sanath, two migrant laborers, and several others, with the police actively carrying out further investigations.
According to the complaint filed by Dileep Kumar, his deceased brother Pradeep had been in a relationship with Shravya Shetty for the past eight years. On the night of October 27, around 10 PM, while Pradeep was walking toward his residence in Nayarkode, Shravya’s brothers Prasanna Shetty, Sudheer Shetty, Shailesh Shetty, alongside Sanath, Krishna, Sujay, and others, arrived in three cars and verbally abused him.
The complaint further detailed that accused Prasanna Shetty forcibly took Pradeep to Shravya’s house and brutally assaulted him on his legs and back with a cane, causing severe bruises, while the other accomplices joined in and struck his body with wooden sticks, inflicting physical injuries.
Upon learning about the assault, Dileep sent his friends to Shravya’s house to check on Pradeep, where they witnessed the assault taking place, prompting the perpetrators to stop their attack upon seeing them.
On October 28, Pradeep was admitted as an in-patient at the Ajjarkad District Hospital for treatment, where he recounted the entire ordeal to his brother, including the assault and the terrifying threats issued by Shravya Shetty and her family members.
Deeply distressed and traumatized by the humiliating incident and continuous threats, Pradeep tragically ended his life by tying a white tag around his neck inside the hospital’s restroom at around 5:30 PM on October 30, leading to the registration of an abetment to suicide case against all accused at the Udupi City Police Station.
