Uppinangady : Acting on a tip-off, the Belthangady Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Rohini C.K. and her team successfully busted an illegal diesel storage unit in Muraltiyar, Kaniyur village. During the raid conducted near the residence of the accused, identified as 35-year-old Jagadish, the police discovered a large quantity of fuel stored without any valid permits. The operation highlights the local administration’s intensified efforts to curb the black-marketing and illegal hoarding of essential fuels in the region.
Upon inspecting a shed close to the house, the police team found twenty barrels, each with a 200-liter capacity, and five cans holding 35 liters each. In total, 4,175 liters of diesel were seized from the spot. Additionally, several empty barrels, cans, and other related equipment used for decanting and storage were recovered. The total value of the seized assets is estimated to be approximately ₹3,50,000.
Following the recovery, the authorities have officially registered a case against the accused, Jagadish, at the Uppinangady Police Station. The seized diesel and equipment have been taken into police custody for further legal proceedings. The police are currently investigating the source of the fuel and whether it was intended for illegal sale to local transport operators or industries.
