Mangaluru : Additional District Collector Raju K directed concerned officials to take precautionary measures to prevent animals from falling into abandoned wells by identifying hazardous open wells, submitting reports, and safely closing or installing protective nets over them.
He was speaking while chairing the executive committee meeting of the Dakshina Kannada District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday.
Regarding the registration of pet shops, he instructed that all health inspectors of the Mangaluru City Corporation must ensure trade licensing for pet shops and complete their registration process under the Dakshina Kannada SPCA, directing officials to act accordingly.
Officials informed the meeting that out of 12.04 acres of SPCA land in Bondanthila village of Mangaluru taluk, a detailed project report (DPR) for constructing and managing a stray dog shelter on 5 acres by the Mangaluru City Corporation is currently in progress. Furthermore, a proposal requesting a grant of ₹4.76 crore has been submitted to the department commissioner for taking up the first phase of construction for the “Prani Mitra Hospital.”
Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Dr. Arun Kumar, committee members C.A. Prasanna Shenoy, Harish R, Rajani D. Shetty, K. Jayakeerthi Jain, Suma R. Nayak, and others were present at the meeting.
