Mangaluru : In a major breakthrough, the Mangaluru city police have arrested three notorious international housebreakers of Nepalese origin who were involved in a series of high-profile thefts. The law enforcement officials successfully recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments valued at approximately ₹10 lakh from the possession of the accused. The arrested individuals have been identified as Tilak Kumar Khadka, alias Tilak Khadka (36), a resident of Chainpur district in Nepal; Ashok Raj, alias Ashok Singh, alias Ashok Singh Thakuri (33), from Bajhang district in Nepal; and Dipender Rasaili (25), a resident of Kailali district in Nepal.
The arrests trace back to a burglary reported at a house in Mathadakani, near Urwa Market in Mangaluru. On the evening of July 11, the residents locked up their home and traveled to Vitla Kadambu in Bantwal taluk to visit relatives. Upon returning on the morning of July 12, they discovered that burglars had broken open the back door of the house to gain entry. The thieves made away with approximately 64 grams of gold jewelry and ₹25,000 in cash, alongside other valuables, with the total stolen property valued at ₹8,57,000. Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged at the Barke police station, and a case was registered under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Swinging into immediate action, the officers and staff of the Barke police station cracked the case within five days. In the early hours of July 17, the police team tracked down and arrested the three Nepalese suspects in Bolur. During intense interrogation, the accused confessed to their crimes. Based on their statements, the police recovered all the gold jewelry stolen from the Mathadakani residence, along with 790 grams of silver articles which the gang had previously stolen from Nashik, Maharashtra.
Further investigation revealed the gang’s involvement in several other unresolved cases. During the interrogation, the suspects confessed to an attempted housebreak in March within the Urwa police station limits in Mangaluru. Although no valuables were stolen during that attempt, a case had been registered under BNS Sections 333(1), 331(4), 305, and 62, in which their active involvement has now been established.
The police have highlighted that the gang members are professional inter-state criminals with a vast criminal record. They have been linked to over 15 burglaries across various jurisdictions in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Davanagere, and Udupi. Additionally, criminal cases have been registered against them in Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Haryana. The Mangaluru police are currently coordinating with their counterparts in these states to gather more details as the investigation continues. The accused are being produced before the court, and the higher authorities have highly appreciated the Barke police team for their swift and efficient operation.
