Bantwal: A potential disaster was averted in Bantwal town thanks to the extraordinary presence of mind and swift action displayed by a fifth-grade student. Manvith, a young boy studying at the Narikombu Government Higher Primary School, saved the life of a mid-day meal staff member during a critical moment. While mid-day meal preparations were underway at the school, a staff member’s finger accidentally got trapped inside an electric coconut-grating machine. Hearing her cries of agony, Manvith, who was playing in the school courtyard, rushed to the spot without hesitation.
Realizing the gravity and danger of the situation instantly, the young boy acted with remarkable composure and cut off the main power supply immediately. His prompt decision stopped the machine in time and prevented further severe injury or life-threatening harm to the worker. The quick-witted student’s courage and timely intervention earned widespread acclaim from the school’s teaching faculty, School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) President Ravi Anchan, and other committee members.
Prompted by the heroic act, Akshara Dasoha Assistant Director Nonayya Nayak and Cluster Resource Person (CRP) Jyothi visited the school campus to personally commend the child’s presence of mind. Without panicking in a moment of extreme distress, young Manvith’s heroic act of turning off the electricity has prevented a major mishap, making him the center of praise across the region.
