Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan on Thursday declared a holiday for all schools and Pre University Colleges in the district on Friday, in view of heavy rain forecast.
The India Meteorological Department has issued red alert to the district till 8.30 a.m. on Friday. Later it has issued orange alert till 8.30 a.m. on Sunday.
The authority has also issued safety advisories to the public: parents must ensure that children do not go near low-lying waterlogged areas, ponds, riversides, or seashores; fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the sea; and tourists and the general public have been asked to avoid riverbanks and beaches.
