Mangaluru : The coastal city of Mangaluru is rapidly embracing high-tech trends, and the latest example is the introduction of a robot waiter at a local eatery. Following the recent buzz surrounding AI teachers in the region, Pakashala Hotel on K.S. Rao Road has launched a robotic serving service that is providing customers with a unique dining experience. The robot is capable of delivering orders, such as masala dosas or juices, directly to tables without any human intervention, effectively streamlining the serving process.
Standing approximately three feet tall, this attractive robot navigates seamlessly between the hotel’s 35 tables. It has become a major highlight for visitors, especially children, who are eager to take photos with the high-tech staff member. Based on Japanese technology and valued between ₹2 to ₹3 lakhs, the robot features specialized “Food” and “Juice” modes. While in juice mode, it moves with extreme precision to ensure not a single drop is spilled. Equipped with advanced sensors, it instantly stops if someone crosses its path, ensuring safety in a crowded dining hall.
Efficiency is a key feature of this digital employee, as it can work an entire day on just a four-hour charge. It is even smart enough to return to its charging station automatically once its tasks are complete. Beyond the novelty factor, the robot significantly reduces the physical strain on human staff by handling heavy trays. Encouraged by this success, the hotel management is now planning to introduce robots for cleaning tasks in the near future, marking a significant step toward a more automated hospitality sector in Mangaluru.
