Bantwal : A wave of surprise and mild panic gripped the residents of Puppadikatte Nekkilaru in Bantwal on Wednesday when a massive crocodile appeared in the courtyard of a local house. The incident occurred at the residence of Rajesh Nayak, located approximately 200 meters away from the banks of the Netravati River. The crocodile, estimated to be around seven feet in length, was spotted in the early hours of the morning, straying far from its natural aquatic habitat into the human settlement.
The homeowner, Rajesh Nayak, reported that the intrusion took place around 3:00 AM. He was awakened by unusual sounds coming from outside his house; upon stepping out to investigate, he was startled to find the large reptile resting right in his courtyard. After a brief period, the crocodile moved away from the porch and headed toward the adjacent plantation area. Despite the proximity of the predator to his home, the family remained safe, though the sighting has caused concern among neighbors regarding the safety of those living near the riverbank.
While such sightings are not entirely uncommon in areas bordering the Netravati River during certain seasons, the size of this particular crocodile was notable. Interestingly, the homeowner mentioned that he had not yet formally reported the incident to the forest department or local authorities at the time of the report. This event serves as a stark reminder for residents in riparian zones to remain vigilant, especially during the night, as wildlife often ventures into residential spaces in search of prey or new territory.
