Mangaluru : Chetan Singh Rathore, the newly appointed chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up for the re-investigation of the Sowjanya murder case, arrived in Mangaluru on Tuesday and initiated the probe. Following the Supreme Court’s directives, the state government had originally constituted an SIT under N. Shashi Kumar. However, after Shashi Kumar requested to be relieved due to personal reasons—following the earlier exit of SIT member Venkatesh Prasanna—the government recently appointed Chetan Singh Rathore as the new SIT chief alongside ACP Srinidhi. Marking his first official visit to the SIT office in the Old DC Office Complex in Mangaluru on Monday, Rathore oversaw the ongoing proceedings, where team members Sudheer Kumar Reddy and Nisha James were also present during Thursday’s questioning sessions.
As part of the renewed investigation process, key witnesses and family members appeared at the SIT office in Mangaluru for interrogation on Monday. Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi, along with victim’s uncles Purandara Gowda (who is also the complainant in the case) and Vittal Gowda, relative Jagadish Gowda, and witness Yashodha, attended the questioning session before the investigating officials.
