Belthangady : Kusumavati Gowda, the mother of the late victim Soujanya, has formally approached the Dharmasthala Police Station to file a complaint against advocate N.P. Amruthesh, accusing him of making public statements designed to influence the ongoing re-investigation and tarnish the family’s reputation.
Submitted on October 17 through advocate Vijay Vasu Pujari, the complaint centers around a press conference convened by Amruthesh in Bengaluru on October 13. During the media interaction, the advocate allegedly claimed that Soujanya’s parents had capitalized financially from the high-profile case and cast doubts on the potential success of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe.
The complainant stressed that these remarks cause direct damage to the family’s honor and risk intimidating potential witnesses who could offer vital assistance to the ongoing legal proceedings. Urging prompt action, the complaint calls for strict legal measures given the sensitive nature of the case.
The police filing noted that Amruthesh asserted during his press briefing that achieving a logical conclusion within a three-month timeframe is unrealistic, pointing out the practical difficulties of tracing evidence dating back 14 years. Furthermore, he reportedly suggested that Santhosh Rao should undergo renewed investigative scrutiny.
This development follows the Supreme Court’s directive on September 21, 2026, ordering a re-investigation with a strict three-month timeline, which prompted the state government to constitute an SIT on September 24. With the probe having commenced on October 1, the complainant maintained that making speculative or critical public comments mid-investigation severely compromises its neutrality and public trust.
The remarks made during the press meet received widespread media coverage and have since widely circulated across social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp, prompting the family to seek formal legal intervention.
