State Government Committed to Expanding Veterinary Hospitals and Supporting Farmers: Minister C. Puttaranga Shetty

Mangaluru : The State Government is taking all necessary steps to deliver doorstep veterinary care to farmers through mobile veterinary units, alongside providing an incentive of ₹5 per litre to milk producers. To protect livestock from various disease outbreaks, regular vaccination drives are being conducted, while new veterinary institutions and upgraded infrastructure are being established wherever required, stated Minister for Animal Husbandry and Sericulture C. Puttaranga Shetty. He was speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed, well-equipped office building of the Deputy Director (Administration), Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, named “Pashupalana Bhavana,” located at Jail Road, Kodialbail, in the heart of Mangaluru city.

Elaborating on key welfare initiatives, the Minister highlighted that financial compensation is being disbursed under the “Anugraha” scheme to mitigate losses faced by farmers due to the accidental death of cattle. The department is actively distributing fodder minikits to meet livestock feed demands, setting up diagnostic laboratories across regions for early disease detection, and establishing new veterinary colleges. Furthermore, government gowshalas are caring for abandoned, sick, elderly, and unproductive cattle, while financial assistance is also being extended to private gowshalas to ensure comprehensive cattle protection and full departmental support for dairy farmers.

Inaugurating the facility alongside the Minister, Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader emphasized that animals possess an equal right to live on this planet, making their protection and care a fundamental responsibility for all. He expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated facility would enable the department to render enhanced services to the farming community. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Arun Kumar Shetty N., Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, while Dr. Udayakumar Shetty, Chief Veterinary Officer of Brahmavara Taluk, anchored the proceedings. Key dignitaries present included T.M. Shahid Tekkil, Chairman of Karnataka State Minimum Wages Advisory Board; Sharlet Lavina Pinto, Chairperson of Karnataka Eco-Tourism Development Board; Mamata D.S. Gatti, Chairperson of Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation; and Raviraja Shetty from the Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited.
