Sullia : In a significant development, the Sullia police have arrested an 18-year-old youth under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly enticing and sexually assaulting a minor girl who had been missing since May.
The arrested accused has been identified as Dhanush (18), a resident of Kadaba.
According to police details, the minor girl from the Sullia police station limits had left her home on May 7, stating she was heading to Mangaluru for work. When she failed to return, her family lodged a missing person report, leading to a case being registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on May 11 at the Sullia Police Station.
During the ongoing investigation, police successfully traced the missing girl on Wednesday, July 22. In her statement to the authorities, the victim disclosed that the accused, Dhanush, had enticed her and subjected her to sexual assault.
Following her statement, police invoked Section 64(2)(m) of the BNS along with Sections 5(l) and 6 of the POCSO Act into the existing case. The accused was formally taken into custody on July 22 and is currently undergoing interrogation, with further legal proceedings actively underway.
