Thumbay Group Enters 30th Year in UAE: From Single Medical College to Academic Healthcare Empire

Mangaluru : Marking nearly three decades of extraordinary growth and transformation, Dubai-headquartered Thumbay Group has officially entered its milestone 30th year of operations in the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1997 by Mangaluru-origin visionary Dr. Thumbay Moideen upon a special invitation from the ruling family of Ajman, the group began its journey by establishing the historic Gulf Medical College in 1998. Today, that pioneering venture has evolved into Gulf Medical University (GMU), the premier private medical university in the Gulf region. Featuring seven colleges, over 50 accredited programs, and around 5,000 students representing 111 nationalities, GMU maintains academic collaborations with more than 70 global institutions and invests nearly AED 10 million annually into cutting-edge research grants.

Alongside its educational strides, Thumbay Group has built one of the Middle East’s largest integrated private academic healthcare networks. Anchored by the state-of-the-art 25-acre Thumbay Medicity in Al Jurf, Ajman—which attracts around 15,000 daily visitors and houses the 350-bed Thumbay University Hospital—the group’s extensive ecosystem of academic hospitals, clinics, diagnostic labs, and 46 pharmacies has treated over 19 million patients from 175 nationalities while conducting more than 100,000 successful child deliveries. Expanding its horizon, the group is currently launching major projects including Thumbay Medicity Dubai, a 120-bed psychiatric hospital in Sharjah, veterinary teaching facilities, and groundbreaking international longevity medicine programs in partnership with Switzerland’s Geneva College of Longevity Science.
