Tragic End: Final Year Engineering Student Drowns in Netravathi River Near Pajiradka

Belthangady : A tragic incident occurred near the Pajiradka temple in Belthangady taluk when a 21-year-old engineering student drowned while swimming in the Netravathi river. The deceased has been identified as Shreepoorna, a native of Gokak in Belagavi district and a final-year engineering student at a private college in Ujire. The mishap took place on May 19 at around 4:00 PM when a group of seven students ventured into the river at Pajiradka in Kalmanja village for a swim.

Upon receiving information about the drowning, local residents immediately initiated a search operation in the river. Soon after, fire brigade personnel and the Shaurya Disaster Response Team joined the locals in a coordinated night-long operation to locate the missing youth. Following intense efforts, the student’s body was finally retrieved from the river around 9:30 PM. Dharmasthala Police Station Sub-Inspector Samarth R. Ganiger and his team visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case regarding the incident.
