Udupi : Udupi MLA Yashpal A. Suvarna has submitted a detailed memorandum to the Chief Minister, demanding an increase in kerosene subsidies for traditional country boat fishermen. Highlighting that coastal fishermen are enduring severe financial distress caused by skyrocketing kerosene prices and escalating operational expenses, the legislator emphasized the critical need for immediate state intervention to safeguard their livelihoods.
The memorandum was presented during the Chief Minister’s recent visit to Udupi district, where MLA Suvarna outlined several pressing regional demands. He called for special government sanctions to facilitate the comprehensive development of Malpe Fishing Harbour, advocating specifically for the construction of a new jetty, an outer harbor, designated parking facilities, and upgraded civic infrastructure.
Addressing the plight of essential service workers, the MLA urged the government to ensure job security and enhanced welfare benefits for Asha workers, Anganwadi workers and helpers, special education teachers, temple priests and staff, as well as guest teachers in government schools, emphasizing that their services warrant financial stability and employment guarantees.
Furthermore, Suvarna urged the state government to immediately release a special grant of Rs 50 crore to upgrade civic infrastructure under the Udupi City Municipal Council, including roads, drainage channels, footbridges, retaining walls, and streetlights. He also appealed for prompt solutions to the operational hurdles faced by local quarries, stone crushers, and M-sand units to ensure smooth supply and affordable access to construction materials for the general public.
