Udupi: Udupi City Police have successfully arrested a habitual house burglar and recovered stolen gold ornaments valued at a substantial ₹65,79,720. The arrested accused has been identified as Sukesh Naik (37), a resident of Kukkikatte, Kukkehally Village.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed on November 30 by Shaila Wilhelm Meena (53), a resident of Rose Villa near Sharadamba Temple Gopura in 76 Badagubettu Village, Udupi. She discovered the theft when she opened her bedroom wardrobe to wear jewelry before going to church at around 8:30 AM. Approximately 548.31 grams of gold ornaments and a mobile phone were found to be missing. A case was subsequently filed at the Udupi Town Police Station.
Under the guidance of DySP D.T. Prabhu of the Udupi Sub-Division, and led by Inspector (In-charge) Mahesh Prasad P. of the Udupi Town Police Station, a special investigation team was formed. This team, which included PSI Bharatesh Kankanawadi and staff members, successfully arrested the accused, Sukesh Nayak, on Monday, December 2, near Hiren Bar at Kinnimulky. Based on his confession during interrogation, the police recovered the stolen jewelry from his house in Ajjarakadu.
Police confirmed that Sukesh Nayak is a notorious repeat offender with a history of 11 previous house theft cases recorded across the Udupi district. His past record includes five cases in the Udupi Town Police Station (with four resulting in conviction), three cases in Hiriadka Police Station (with one conviction), two cases in Brahmavar Police Station, and one case in Manipal Police Station, all of which are currently pending trial. Following the recovery of the 548.31 grams of gold, worth ₹65.79 lakh, further legal action is being pursued against the accused.
