Mangaluru : The City Crime Branch (CCB) police have successfully apprehended three individuals who had assaulted night-beat police personnel in the Kodikal area of the city and subsequently fled to neighboring Kerala to evade arrest.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sachin K. R. (24) from Arasinamakki in Belthangadi taluk, and Chandan (24) from Nelyadi. The law enforcement officials have also seized the two-wheeled vehicle that was used by the perpetrators during the commission of the crime.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 24, at around 2:10 AM, opposite the Narayana Guru Community Hall Road in Kodikal, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Urwa Police Station. While the police personnel were diligently performing their night-beat duties, the accused arrived at the spot on a red electric scooter. In a sudden and unprovoked move, the pillion rider picked up a piece of a cement sheet and struck the duty-bound policeman directly on his head, causing injuries.
Following a rigorous investigation, the CCB police tracked the suspects down to the Kanhangad region of Kerala on May 26. After detaining them, the CCB team handed the accused over to the Urwa Police Station for further legal proceedings and interrogation.
According to the police investigation, the accused were employed in the city and resided in a rented house located at Phalguni Nagar in Ashoknagar, Mangaluru. On the night of the incident, they were wandering around late into the midnight hours. When the on-duty beat police stopped and questioned them about their presence at that hour, the accused grew enraged and violently attacked the personnel with a cement sheet fragment.
