Bengaluru : Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar strongly condemned the purification act performed at the venue of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge’s public rally in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, calling it a shameful act and demanding the immediate resignation of the state’s Chief Minister. Addressing media queries at the Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar emphasized that the incident brings shame to the entire democratic framework of the nation. He highlighted that Mallikarjun Kharge is not merely an Opposition leader, but the chief of a historic party that fought for India’s independence and now occupies the prestigious position once held by Mahatma Gandhi.

Shivakumar asserted that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar framed the Constitution precisely to eliminate such caste-based discrimination and systemic insult from society. Terming the incident an affront to civilized society, caste-driven bigotry, and an insult to the Dalit community and every Indian citizen across the country, he urged the Prime Minister and BJP national leadership to answer for this conduct. He questioned how BJP leaders would have reacted had their own ministers faced such humiliation, stressing that the disrespect shown to Kharge is intolerable and calling for strict action against those responsible.

Responding to BJP National President J. P. Nadda’s assurance of an inquiry, Shivakumar dismissed the need for prolonged investigations when clear visual evidence is already public, demanding swift punitive measures instead. Additionally, when questioned about Cabinet discussions regarding permission for RSS events, Shivakumar clarified that no specific organization was singled out, explaining that obtaining prior police approval for public programs is a standard practice applicable to all political parties and organizations to ensure adequate police security, citing Minister Krishna Byre Gowda’s upcoming ‘Freedom Habba’ as an example requiring similar clearance.
