Mangaluru : A captivating video is making waves across social media platforms showing an unusual and rare marine creature, identified as a “Catshark,” being rescued and successfully guided back into the ocean. The massive fish, distinguished by its unique reddish hue, feline-like eyes, and distinct striped body patterns resembling a cat, was inadvertently trapped in a net during a routine deep-sea fishing expedition. Given its extraordinary size and unfamiliar appearance, the catch immediately sparked immense curiosity among the crew.
Rather than exploiting the rare find for commercial gain or harming it, the fishermen demonstrated commendable environmental responsibility. Recognizing the ecological significance of the rare species—which is generally not used for consumption—they carefully extracted the heavy marine animal from the fishing nets. Utilizing an on-board crane, the crew painstakingly lowered the massive shark back into the water. Online viewers have widely shared and praised the heartwarming footage of the majestic creature safely swimming away into the deep sea.
While initial viral social media posts claimed that the creature weighed an astonishing 600 kg, local fishing experts have offered a more realistic assessment. Based on visual evaluations from the footage, seasoned fishermen estimate the shark’s actual weight to be somewhere between 150 kg and 200 kg. Additionally, clarified reports from Mangaluru fishing community leaders revealed that although the video gained intense local traction, the incident did not take place at the Mangaluru jetty. Instead, it was executed by a group of fishermen hailing from Tamil Nadu while they were operating out at sea.
