Mysore : A glaring instance of negligence and severe security compromise has surfaced within the highly protected Maddur Range of the famous Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar district. In a shocking lapse of oversight by the Forest Department, a group of individuals managed to infiltrate a strictly prohibited zone and host a liquor party right next to an anti-poaching camp.
This serious breach of protocol in an ecologically sensitive zone has sparked widespread criticism from environmentalists and locals alike. Furious residents are demanding answers from forest authorities on how individuals with notorious criminal backgrounds could effortlessly bypass multiple checkpoints to gain unauthorized entry into a highly guarded wildlife habitat.
According to reliable sources, a history-sheeter from the Gundlupet police station, identified as Satish, along with his close associates Gangadhar and Chetan, illegally entered the Hulikatte area inside the Maddur forest range. Once inside, the trio allegedly set up a campsite near the anti-poaching outpost to consume alcohol undisturbed.
The gravity of the situation is heightened by the fact that the Hulikatte area is a critical, high-density wildlife corridor frequently used by tigers and other endangered animals. The entire controversy erupted after photographs of the three men casually drinking alcohol deep inside the sanctuary went viral, raising urgent alarm bells regarding the efficacy of the reserve’s surveillance and patrolling mechanisms.
Ordinarily, public entry into the deep interiors of the Bandipur forest is heavily penalized, and anti-poaching camps are highly restricted zones reserved exclusively for on-duty forest guards and authorized personnel. The Forest Department is now facing intense pressure to investigate the lapse and take stringent action against the trespassers and any complicit staff.
