New Delhi : Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have decided to call off any grand public victory parade in the city following their spectacular Indian Premier League (IPL) triumph. This proactive decision by the franchise aims to prevent extreme crowd congestion and avoid a repeat of last year’s tragic stampede during their maiden title celebration. The team clinched their second consecutive IPL trophy on Sunday after defeating Gujarat by five wickets.
The decision also factors in the upcoming swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka’s new Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar. Scheduled for June 3 at around 4:10 PM at the Lokabhavan, the high-profile political event is set to draw massive crowds from across the state. Crucially, the Governor’s official residence is located in close proximity to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, making the entire zone highly sensitive.
With several VVIPs and dignitaries slated to attend the oath-taking ceremony, the Bengaluru traffic and city police will be heavily deployed for protocol security. Managing another massive public gathering for a cricket parade simultaneously would stretch the state police department to its limits. Respecting the security advisories issued by the law enforcement agencies, the RCB management wisely chose to skip the open-air roadshow.
The memory of June 4, 2025, heavily influenced this decision, when an uncontrolled victory march near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in a horrific stampede, claiming the lives of 11 passionate cricket fans. An internal source from the franchise confirmed that holding an outdoor event in Bengaluru is completely ruled out as they intend to strictly abide by the safety guidelines. Backing this, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh stated that no public open-air celebrations will be permitted, advising that any celebratory events must be strictly restricted to indoor venues.
