Mangaluru : Following warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) regarding continuous heavy rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district, a Yellow Alert has been declared for the region. As a precautionary measure, the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday on Thursday, July 23, 2026, for all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, residential schools, as well as Pre-University (PU) and PU residential colleges up to Class 12. The district administration has strictly warned that any institution violating this order will face legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
In light of the adverse weather conditions, parents have been advised to exercise extreme caution and ensure children do not visit waterlogged low-lying areas, lakes, rivers, or sea beaches. Fishermen have been strictly instructed not to venture into the sea, while tourists and the general public have been directed to stay away from riverbanks and coastal stretches. Furthermore, department officials have been instructed to keep relief centers (Kalaji Kendras) in a state of readiness across all taluks.
The Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate have directed all district-level and taluk-level officers to mandatorily remain at their headquarters, execute disaster management protocols strictly without fail, respond immediately to public grievances, and maintain continuous coordination with the district control room.
