Mangaluru : The quarter-final matches of the Yonex – Sunrise Chief Minister’s Mangaluru India International Challenge 2025 Badminton Tournament were held on Friday, the third day of the event, at the New Urwa Indoor Stadium in Mangaluru.
In the Mixed Doubles category, the Thai duo of Tanawin Madee and Napaporn Tungkasatan defeated India’s Aryan Safiya and Jia Rawat with scores of 21-13, 21-29. In another closely contested match, the 5th seed Thai pair, Pongskorn Thongkham and Nanapas Sukklad, overcame India’s top-seeded Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh 16-21, 21-6, 23-22. Indian pairs also advanced: Ayush Makhija and Likitha Srivastav beat their compatriots Sanjay Srivatsa Dhanraj and Anagha Aravind Pai 22-20, 21-23, 21-15, while the 2nd seed Indian pair of Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K defeated Bhavya Chhabra and Vishakha Toppo 21-19, 21-5.
In the Men’s Singles, the top seed Rithvik Sanjeevi Satish Kumar secured his semi-final spot by defeating Saneeth Dayanand 16-21, 21-15, 21-12. A.R Rohan Kumar Anandas Rajkumar caused an upset by defeating Aryamann Tandon 21-13, 18-21, 21-23, and Raunak Chauhan beat Ansh Vishal Gupta 21-13, 21-14. In a fierce all-Indian battle, the 16th seed Pranay Shettigar won against the 12th seed Tushar Suveer with scores of 14-21, 21-14, 21-5.
The Women’s Singles category witnessed two major upsets. The 14-year-old Indian shuttler, Tanvi Patri, created a record by defeating America’s top seed Ishika Jaiswal 21-19, 21-18. Additionally, the 16th seed Surya Charishma Tamiri registered another notable victory by beating the 2nd seed Shreya Lele 17-21, 21-13, 23-21. Other winners include the 3rd seed Mansi Singh, who defeated Rujula Ramu 21-18, 19-21, 21-13, and the 8th seed Meghana Reddy Mareddi, who beat the 4th seed Ashmita Chaliha 21-19, 21-13.
In the Men’s Doubles, the 5th seed Thai pair, Pharanyu Khosamong and Tanadon Punpanich, defeated Russia’s Rodion Alimov and Maksim Oglablin 21-9, 21-18. Another Thai pair, Chalompien Charoenkittamorn and Worapol Thongsanga, defeated the Indian duo of Akshan Shetty and Shankar Prasad Udayakumar 21-12, 21-12. Singaporean pairs also had a successful day, with Donovan Willard Wee and Jia Ho Howin Wong defeating Tanawin Madee and Phuttimet Senkuntha of Thailand 21-19, 21-13, and the top-seeded Eng Keat Wesley Koh and Jia Suk Kubo defeating India’s Karthik Raja Balamurugan and P. Parth Vaid 21-6, 18-21, 21-14.
Finally, in the Women’s Doubles, the 3rd seed Indian pair of Ashwini Bhat K and Shikha Gautam defeated Rashmi Ganesh and Saniya Sikandar 21-17, 21-18. The 5th seed Thai duo, Hataytip Mijad and Napaporn Tungkasatan, also entered the semis by beating India’s Sakshi Gahlawat and Taneesha Singh 21-14, 21-8. Srinidhi Narayan and Rishika Udayasuryan defeated Aarti Sara Sunil and Varshini Viswanath 21-18, 21-19, and the Indian pair of Aditi Bhatt and Sharvani Walekar overcame Neysa Cariappa and Anagha Aravind Pai 21-17, 21-10.
