Mangalore : Almost all the political parties from both the right wing and the left has given nationwide bandh call for Monday July 5, in order to protest against the increase in the prices of petroleum products.
The city was seen empty without any people and vehicle movement and the shops were seen closed. Buses including the school vehicles are off the roads. Schools and colleges have remained closed, while the medical shops, which have been given exemption from the bandh call, were seen operating with half opened doors.
Several labour organizations, organizations of vehicle owners and drivers etc., have extended support to the bandh call.
The Dakshina Kannada district police and the city police commissionerate have mechanize to maintain law and order in the district. Superintendent of police, Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, Police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, has arranged the services of KSRP platoons, 50 vehicles and 200 home guards in the district.
