Puttur : A 21-year-old youth Krishna J. Rao, son of senior BJP leader P.G. Jagannivasa Rao, from Bappalagudde, has been arrested by police in Mysuru for allegedly raping a woman under the false promise of marriage and then absconding.
Krishna had established a physical relationship with the 21-year-old woman by assuring her of marriage. When she became pregnant, he allegedly refused to marry her and subsequently went missing for 10 days. A case of rape and breach of trust had been registered against him at the Dakshina Kannada Women’s Police Station.
The survivor, who also hails from the Puttur City Municipal limits, had recently completed her undergraduate studies from a college in Mangaluru.
Following his disappearance, police had intensified questioning of Krishna’s relatives. Based on their statements, police were able to trace and apprehend him in Mysuru on Friday.
