Mangaluru : Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industryc, Mangaluru, has unveiled its flagship focus for the year, “Elevate Brand Mangaluru”, a multi-phase initiative aimed at showcasing Mangaluru’s immense potential to a global audience.
Setting the tone for the launch on Saturday, KCCI president Anand G. Pai said with its strategic location, vibrant industries, diverse culture, and unmatched hospitality, Mangaluru is well-positioned to claim its rightful place on the world stage. The chamber is committed to making that a reality, he said.
Elaborating his perspective on positioning Mangaluru for global recognition, Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MP, stressed on the importance of strengthening and augmenting the infrastructure. Steps are being taken to acquire 45 acres of land for executing the runway safety work at Mangaluru International Airport, he said.
Capt. Chowta also said New Mangalore Port has been the major asset for the region. With the four-lane Port Connectivity Road still being under New Mangalore Port Road Company Ltd., his efforts to bring it under the National Highways Authority of India, through negotiations with Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, are likely to yield results soon. This would facilitate expanding and augmenting the highway network in the region thereby boosting trade and commerce, he added.
A panel discussion on celebrating the resilience of the Mangaluru ecosystem featured leaders from tourism [Prashanth Aroor], education and healthcare [Vishal Hegde], IT and start-up [Rohith Bhat], investments [Sandeep Shenoy], and the film industry [Vijay Kumar Kodialbail], while Johnson Tellis moderated the discussion. The conversation focused on how each sector can contribute to strengthening Mangaluru’s brand identity.
Mr. Bhat said with over $500 million exports from coastal Karnataka alone, the IT-centred development has ignited much hope for the region. Mr. Hegde noted that exposure to the talents need to be provided as the region has been providing quality technical education. Mr. Aroor argued for developing the tourism sector on the lines of Kerala. Mr. Kodialbail noted that Mangaluru was emerging as a mini cinema industry with new avenues getting opened in the region.
Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader spoke. Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan sent his support and best wishes via a video byte for the launch. M. Athmika Amin, director and chairperson for Elevate Brand Mangaluru, KCCI, digitally launched phase 1 of Elevate Brand Mangaluru.
