KCCI Delegation Meets Karnataka Chief Minister Shri D. K. Shivakumar, Submits Memorandum on Coastal Region Development

Mangaluru : A high-level delegation from the Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), led by President Shri P.B. Ahmed Mudassar, along with office bearers, directors, and past presidents, met with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri D. K. Shivakumar, at the Circuit House in Mangaluru on Thursday, September 17, 2026. During the hour-long exclusive interactive session, the delegation submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting critical issues and priority infrastructure initiatives needed for the holistic economic growth of the region.

The Chief Minister listened attentively to the concerns raised by the trade body and engaged in an active discussion regarding actionable solutions. He gave a positive assurance of the state government’s support towards coastal Karnataka’s economic development, laying specific emphasis on boosting local tourism infrastructure and encouraging sustainable industrial trade across the district.

Among the key proposals submitted during the interaction, KCCI urged the government to allocate a dedicated five-year budget specifically for tourism promotion, focusing on beach tourism, surfing, paddling, and adventure sports. To encourage higher tourist footfall, the chamber advocated for the creation of an annual calendar of tourism and cultural events aligned with educational holidays. Furthermore, they recommended establishing a single-window clearance system for tourism-related infrastructure projects to streamline statutory approvals.

To support the hospitality sector, the delegation urged the state government to formulate clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and a unified policy framework for homestays, ensuring seamless coordination among MESCOM, the Tourism Department, Law and Order, and local administration. Hon’ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri U.T. Khader, MLC Shri Ivan D’Souza, and senior government officials were also present during the fruitful discussions on prospective development policies for Mangaluru.
