Udupi : The Udupi police on Saturday arrested two people for allegedly illegally transporting cattle and attempting to attack policemen.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Azeem Kapu and Mohammed Razeek Bajpe.
The police said the two were among the group that attempted to run over a team of policemen attached to the Gangolli police station. The team reportedly tried to stop the vehicle in which the accused were illegally transporting five head of cattle, near Hejmadi Toll Gate, on August 5.
Following the incident, the police arrested Sharoj Surathal, and then filed a complaint on the same with the Padubidri police.
Meanwhile, they kept track of the movement of Azeem and Razeek, who had reportedly been to Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Based on information that the duo had come to Bajpe in Mangaluru, a team led by Kapu Circle Inspector Jayashree Mane arrested Azeem and Razeek on Saturday.
They were produced before the jurisdictional court, and were remanded in judicial custody.
Azeem was also an accused in two cases of cattle theft registered in Uttara Kannada district and another case for stealing construction material in the limits of Moodbidri police station, the police said.
