Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee staged a massive protest near the Clock Tower in Mangaluru as part of the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) nationwide ‘Vote Bachao-Desh Bachao’ movement. Addressing the gathering, District Congress President Padmaraj R. Pujari strongly criticized the BJP, questioning their moral right to speak on protecting democracy while actively attempting to destabilize it. Highlighting data claiming that 99 lakh voters were omitted from the draft electoral rolls in the state, he demanded that the BJP immediately cancel the SIR process and account for their claims regarding illegal voters. He stressed that Congress remains committed to safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights and protecting democracy through grassroots protests down to every village and household.
Inaugurating the protest, former minister B. Ramanath Rai alleged that the BJP’s tactics of using SIR for voter suppression and electoral manipulation have now been exposed globally. Drawing a parallel to the political shifts faced by Donald Trump in the US, he stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would face similar consequences in the upcoming days. MESCOM Chairman Harish Kumar accused the central BJP government of tweaking laws regarding the appointment of Election Commissioners to favor their own political agenda, terming it a calculated ‘vote theft’ conspiracy. Key leaders including Cashew Development Corporation Chairperson Mamata Gatti, Mahila Congress leader Appi S., BUDA Chairman Baby Kunder, block presidents, and senior party members participated in the protest.
