Mangaluru : The current state government is ruling without political will, and its misgovernance has pushed the people into distress, alleged M.B. Sadashiva, State Vice President of the JDS, while speaking at a press conference in Mangaluru on Thursday.
He recalled that when H.D. Deve Gowda and H.D. Kumaraswamy served as Chief Ministers, they changed the very perspective of administration. Specifically, during his tenure, H.D. Kumaraswamy engaged directly with the public through programmes like ‘Grama Darshana’ (Village Sightings) and ‘Janata Darshana’ (Public Interaction) to understand their problems closely. Furthermore, he introduced the KPS (Karnataka Public School) scheme to prioritize quality education for rural children. However, the current Congress party is reportedly running the administration solely to please its High Command, Sadashiva criticized.
Addressing local issues, he pointed out that Mangalore University is facing financial problems, leading to a decrease in student enrollment, and several departments are being shut down. Due to the scarcity of laterite stone (Kempukallu) and sand, daily wage labourers are unable to afford higher education for their children. He expressed pity for the District Administration, which seems incapable of resolving even these minor issues.
Sadashiva also raised concerns about the lack of protocol adherence in the district. He stated that officials, when contacted, often respond by saying the matter must be discussed with the District In-Charge Minister. He expressed outrage that people are suffering because the administration of the Taluk and Zilla Panchayats—the local representative bodies—is currently not in existence.
Party leaders, including Muhammad Kunhi, Vasanth Poojary, Haider Parthippady, Praveenchandra Jain, Iqbal Mulki, Akshith Suvarna, Kanakadas, Vincent Pereira, Rithish Karkera, and others, were present at the press meet.
